Our Personal Experiences
Over the Summer, I have been working on my book project, The Public State of Health Affairs: The Opioid Epidemic in the United States. The intent of this project is to help others better understand that fighting this epidemic is a team sport - and is a cross-collaborative endeavor. The publisher has given me a year to complete it and while ambitious, it will be timely!
I have shared time with individuals that work in multiple disciplines - Criminal Justice, Political Science, the Health Care System, the Military and Public Health. They have shared personal experiences of their own with addiction - either themselves or someone they know and love or someone they work to protect and heal. It is a story that hits home for many of us.
I have spent years working in and doing research on the Opioid Epidemic but it was in a healthcare research silo. Now that I am truly broadening my perspective, I see so much more. So, I'm asking you - if you or someone you know either works in this area, does research, has personal experience with this epidemic I would love to talk with you and have a conversation.
This epidemic is one that know no race, ethnicity or socioeconomic boundaries. And it is one that is not going away. So, let's fight it and defeat it once and for all - together.
