Our people, their stories: Shakura Sharmin

Meet our experts and the passionate people who work behind the scenes at AUSIEX to deliver the best outcomes for you and your clients.

?Meet Shakura Sharmin,?Human Resources Manager at AUSIEX.

AUSIEX is located across Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and we service the whole of Australia. Shakura works in our Human Resources team supporting our leadership team and workforce across a number of critical areas.

What would others consider you an expert in?

All things HR! This includes all of our people policies, processes, recruitment, learning & development, WHS, engagement, recognition, benefits and many more exciting things!

How would you describe your role at AUSIEX in a few sentences?

I partner with employees & leaders at AUSIEX to champion a culture that enables the execution of our strategy, building capability now and for the future, through attracting, engaging and developing our people.

Tell us about your job history prior to taking on your current role.

I started my career at Clayton Utz where I sunk my teeth into the solid foundations of best practice HR in the People Connect team. Here, I got plenty of exposure and experience in a range of HR initiatives and programs. After a few years I took on an opportunity as an HR Advisor at Alinta Energy, partnering with a number of business units on operational and strategic matters.

In January 2021, I joined Commonwealth Bank as an HR Business Partner to assist with the divestment of AUSIEX from CBA. During this time, I worked alongside Fiona Nash & other great colleagues to establish a brand new HR function with strong foundations for Day 1 (our first day following divestment). This was a great time of focus, preparation and prioritisation to ensure we really hit the ground running as a brand new business!

What is a typical day like in your role?

We’re a small but mighty HR team at AUSIEX & this often means we’re working with and being adaptable to change so a typical day is tricky to pin down! In a typical week, I might find myself recruiting for solid talent at AUSIEX, looking ways to improve our policies and processes, planning for upcoming wellbeing & safety related sessions, coaching and advising leaders on all things people related and assisting with chunkier projects or initiatives on topics such as engagement and recognition.

What is your proudest or greatest achievement while working for AUSIEX??

I was really proud taking a step back and looking at the all the hard work that brought us amazing outcomes at when we became ‘AUSIEX’ in May 2021. It was fascinating to drive and support the development of an entirely new HR function with new policies, procedures and philosophies that were fit for purpose for our new world. My team worked incredibly hard to have a solid HR offering for Day 1 and we’ve continued our energy into other initiatives since to develop meaningful programs and initiatives for our people.

Outside of work, what do you spend most of your time doing??

Outside of work, you’ll often catch me being a social butterfly with my loved ones enjoying a meal and some cocktails! I’ve also got a new found love of reading non-fiction books, with the latest book I’ve finished being ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear.
