Our Partner's View - Values are for living, not laminating.
This new data from @Mark Murphy @LeadershipIQ is about the benefits of taking organisational values from the walls and PowerPoint presentations to embedding them deeply into the day-to-day behaviour of your employees. The findings are compelling and totally reinforce our mantra that “values are for living not laminating”.
The research finds that most corporate values are not sufficiently detailed, not discussed enough, and not deeply embedded into the workforce. But when company values are executed well, employees are roughly 200% more engaged than in companies with poorly implemented values. Here are some of the other benefits:
·????????Employees are 115% more engaged when their organization has a well-defined set of company values?
·????????Employees have 107% higher employee engagement when their company has detailed what specific behaviours are necessary to live their company values
·????????Companies that discuss their values daily have 37% higher employee engagement than companies who discuss their values yearly
·????????Employees are 80% more satisfied if the company values are embedded into performance appraisals
·????????Employees are 135% more engaged if their company always hires people who fit their company values
There is a treasure chest of rich information to consider, and it is worth looking at the findings in some depth to see what relates to your own organisation and context. Here, we will concentrate on some key points with a brief commentary about how the award winning 31Practices approach creates value for each of the findings:
·????????Finding #2: fewer than a quarter of organisations have detailed what specific behaviours are necessary to live their company values.
31Practices is a set of observable behaviours explicitly connected to the organisation’s values, co-created by all employees
·????????Finding #4: the more often your company discusses its corporate values, the higher your employee engagement.

31Practices is based on the fundamental principle of conscious daily practice so values are part of the language: every person, every day.
·????????Finding #5: too few organisations embed their company values into their performance appraisals.
31Practices is reinforced in the day-to-day operation by supporting processes e.g. end to end employee experience journey including recruitment, performance review, recognition etc
·????????Finding #6: very few employees believe that everyone lives the company core values on a day-to-day basis.
31Practices provides a framework to bring the values to life every day
·????????Finding #8: only a third of direct managers hold people accountable to their company values.
31Practices is an excellent tool for team leaders to hold people to account because it legitimizes the conversation about behaviour, all the way from the CEO to the most junior employee
·????????Finding #16: four out of ten people say that their company values have a meaningful impact on whether they keep working at their current company.
31Practices has been quoted by employees as being a key reason to join an organisation and to stay
Mark’s Word Picture approach helps with the embedding process too and we are curious to explore the possibility of how this might work hand in hand with 31Practices.

2 年Thanks BQF. I was excited to see this research because the findings are compelling and it clearly identifies the areas that the 31Practices approach helps to address. The question for me is “why would you invest an annual salary in an employee if they are not an ambassador of your organization and values?” #values
