Giving the Gift of Education During Back to School Season

No alt text provided for this image

As the back-to-school season kicked off in Uganda, NJO Foundation Africa began our donations to children unable to afford education. With UGX 1,942,500.00 of donations, our foundation was able to assist in covering the school fees and all other necessary services and materials for 136 children who would not otherwise have been able to afford them. Our main help towards these children has been covering their schooling fees alongside providing them with notebooks, textbooks, and pencils.

Through these hosted events to hand out our donations, we have been fortunate to witness the hope and confidence gained for these children's future. Every child has a dream to fulfill and each one of them deserves to reach their full potential. The power of education is important and we see our efforts as working towards equal opportunity and uplifting children coming from impoverished backgrounds into a more financially sound future.

Teaching Health Education to Girls and Young Women

Teaching young girls about sexual health is extremely important for both their wellness and personal growth. The World Health Organization defines sexual health as a state of emotional, physical, mental, and social well-being. Our organization recognizes the critical empowerment brought to people through proper sexual health education. That is why the NJO Foundation Africa has made followed a mission of making young girls more aware of sexual health and its importance. ?

Recent studies have shown that in Uganda, especially in impoverished areas, young girls and women lack information about their sexual health, available sexual health services, and who or where to turn to if they experience violations, such as sexual assault. In order to help counter this development of inadequate sexual health knowledge, our organization hosted an event for schoolgirls in the village. We provided them with sanitary pads alongside the opportunity to hear educated women to offer their insight on hygiene and answer questions.

We are fortunate to have had this opportunity to help these young girls in their well-being and plan to continue with similar efforts going forward.

Beginning a Project to Help Senior Citizens

As NJO Foundation Africa (NJOFA) was going house to house to find families with children for our other programs, we met many elderly people running their household or living alone without their needs met. Furthermore, many of these elders were suffering from health problems such as back pain, vision problems, diabetes, and arthritis. These adversities alongside the limitations of poverty were greatly hindering their quality of life and ability to obtain necessities. This has led us to have an NJOFA Program for the Elderly. We want to create a program just for our older community members as they deserve so much respect and care for how they have raised the villages.

We aim to uplift our communities’ elders in order that they may experience the great quality of life they deserve. We will use donations to further provide basics (such as soap, food, water, and clothes) as well as use funds to cover medical expenses for care and treatment. All donations to NJOFA’s Program for the Elderly go directly to the products and services given to the elderly.?

The woman pictured here is Nakanda Aidah and she is over 80 years old. She is head of the household as she takes care of her 8-year-old grandchild. Despite having little funds and suffering from vision loss and blindness for 10 years, she still does her best to help with clothes and preparing food for the two of them. Unfortunately, these efforts still have left their household to only live on one to two meals a day (and that’s only when there is food available). Our foundation seeks to alleviate these burdens facing both her and her grandchild using our Program for the Elderly alongside our various programs for children living in poverty. By helping with funds and supplying necessities, this household, among many others, can live happily and with more positive opportunities.?

Helping Mugoya Ian

No alt text provided for this image

NJO would like to introduce our friend, Mugoya Ian. Ian is three and a half years old and was born with a hernia. Unfortunately, his health conditions saw no improvement with age and development. He is unable to attend school due to his conditions because his symptoms include chronic pain, the inability to walk straight, and a weak immune system, which causes him to be vulnerable to contagious diseases.

Sadly, his mother is unable to afford the required surgery and treatment at a cost of $3,850. This surgery is necessary to address the root problem as First Aid category treatments only provide him with temporary relief.

NJO created a fundraiser to assist his mother in paying for his surgery and treatment through donations. By doing this, our objective is to provide Mugoya Ian with a normal childhood and allow him to attend school with other youth. Please help us help Mugoya Ian by donating. Click here to donate!

Why Helping People like Ian Mugoya is Important

Here is how your donation to NJO can help play a role: Healthcare costs are unfortunately inevitable for many families, especially those living in poverty, because diseases like Malaria are widespread in Africa. The most vulnerable group to Malaria are young children and they make up about 80% of Malaria deaths. It is hindering the progress and quality of life of our future generations. Also, impoverished families remain highly vulnerable to many other infectious diseases as they are unable to cover the costs of disease prevention. Currently, our communities have families unable to pay their medical bills with results of severe or fatal consequences as diseases progress to harmful stages.

Fortunately, these unfortunate consequences of disease can be avoided. By increasing access to treatments, NJO Foundation Africa hopes to decrease the number of deaths from diseases by catching and treating them in the earlier stages. We have and plan to continue to cover impoverished families' medical bills alongside our donations to them of necessities. Furthermore, the most vulnerable group to Malaria are young children as they make up about 80% of Malaria deaths. NJO Foundation Africa hopes by helping cover medical costs for Malaria and other health problems that we are saving the next generation.

Transforming Lives: NJO Foundation Africa's Journey to Clean Water

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, yet many communities in Africa continue to face the devastating consequences of water scarcity and contamination.?Families without clean water are forced to rely on polluted water for their daily needs. This leads to outbreaks of waterborne diseases and compromises the health and well-being of the entire community. Families find themselves trapped in a cycle of illness and poverty, unable to cover the medical costs necessary to recover.

NJO Foundation Africa recognized this growing cycle and started a mission to address the urgent need for clean water within many communities. Through the generous support of donors, our foundation has implemented various projects to provide safe and clean drinking water. One project this summer was hosted in a Ugandan village. Volunteers came together to clean and maintain the pipes through which water flows. This collaborative effort not only ensured the longevity of a clean water supply for the community but also fostered a sense of unity and shared responsibility within the community.

NJO Foundation Africa's relentless efforts to provide clean and safe drinking water have brought about a transformational change in communities suffering from waterborne diseases. By ensuring access to clean water, the foundation has not only improved health outcomes but has also opened doors to a brighter future within these communities.?

Our foundation recognizes that our mission to provide clean water to those in need must be an ongoing commitment. Proper sanitation requires proper resources as well as continual maintenance and upkeep. By raising awareness, we hope to educate and gather more donations and volunteers to spread the positive impact of clean water further throughout Africa.
