Our one global team is driving the future

Last week I was in Seoul, Korea, helping open our newest international research and technology center (our seventh to date). Adding to that, we recently celebrated ten year anniversaries for our centers in China and India. These events made me stop and reflect on how our global presence has changed the face of Boeing and, more broadly, aerospace.

As the leader of Boeing’s advanced research and technology organization, it’s hard for me to look back to recall the days when Boeing was known as a “Puget Sound company,” or even a “U.S. company” for that matter. Our business and the future we are building today is so much bigger and broader than that. It is also now driven by technology as much as it is by product.

Today, our team of researchers, scientists, engineers and technicians is literally shaping the future of aerospace by looking deeply into the future and developing technologies that will make that future connected world possible and practical. Our technology centers in the U.S. and around the world are a huge part of that. Utilizing the diverse strengths and capabilities of our global teams, our centers are exploring and helping advance technology areas like artificial intelligence, autonomy, mobility platforms, connected cabin and smart factory techniques.

I don’t know that Boeing could have done this as recently as 20 years ago, when we were still seen as a “Puget Sound” company.” Our world has changed significantly and continues to change at a rapid rate. Our global team is helping to define both the pace and direction of that technology-enabled future.

The bottom line is, in order to change the world, you have to be a player in shaping the world’s technology ecosystem, and that is what our one global team is doing every day. That is really exciting to me. I hope it is exciting to you as well!
