Atap would like to address the false information circulating within the interior design industry regarding our recent event at 1 Utama.

Contrary to the misleading information, we have never promoted or advocated for "free ID or design services” to be given to homeowners. What we were promoting at our event was “free ID consultation,” an initial, introductory meeting between homeowners and designers that we believe should be cost-free. This is an opportunity for homeowners to sit down with experienced designers to discuss their needs and for the designers to explain their role and the scope of their work.

“Free ID consultation” should not be interpreted as Atap calling for designers to provide “free ID or design services.” We understand the complexity and thought that goes into a designer’s work, from initial conceptualization to completed project. We believe any design work after the initial consultation should be a paid service. While Atap encourages designers to value their expertise and charge appropriately, we acknowledge that each individual firm has the right to determine how they wish to promote their services. This, however, does not reflect Atap’s values and beliefs.

To address the video currently circulating online, we would like to clarify that the term “free ID services” was mistakenly used to refer to “free ID consultation.” The speaker intended to convey that the consultations provided to homeowners at the event were cost-free.

These false claims unfairly tarnish the reputation of the four established design firms who participated in our event, whose intention was to assist homeowners and provide them with a better understanding of the design and renovation process. The overwhelming response to our event has highlighted the genuine desire for homeowners to connect with designers and access professional advice.

Our events aim to provide exposure to the interior design industry, making it accessible to everyone, regardless of income. We want people to know that beautiful homes are achievable. Atap is committed to fostering a thriving design industry and empowering homeowners to create spaces they love.

Since our establishment in 2016, Atap has advocated for the interior design industry and the value designers bring to homeowners. Over the past eight years, we have successfully connected thousands of satisfied homeowners with designers through our platform, Atap.co, and our events. We remain dedicated to uplifting the interior design industry and providing value to homeowners.
