ChatGPT Creator in Investor Talks at $29 Billion Valuation

The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI, a research lab behind the viral chatbot ChatGPT, is in talks to sell shares in a tender offer that would value the company at $29 billion.OpenAI's chatbot went viral in the past year and consists of a software application designed to mimic human-like conversation based on user prompts, responding to a large range of questions.

Tesla's CEO Elon Musk founded the research organization with investor Sam Altman and Microsoft, which invested $1 billion in OpenAI in 2019, and was reportedly working to launch a version of its search engine Bing using the AI behind the now-viral ChatGPT.

The firm expects business to surge as it pitched to investors saying the organization expects $200 million in revenue next year and $1 billion by 2024, Reuters reported in December.

The high cost of Data Breaches

Data breaches aren't going away. Both businesses and individuals can take some basic steps to avoid falling victim to an attack. The cost of a data breach hit a record high this year, at nearly $4.4 million.

In August of 2022, there were several major data breaches: Communications giant Twilio exposed 1900 users' phone numbers and SMS verification codes. CISCO confirmed a ransomware gang had exfiltrated 2.8GB of data and 4 million Twitter users were thought to have been affected by a data breach at the social media firm.

To counter this, strict password policies and multi-factor authentication should be enforced. It is also important to patch and upgrade software as soon as asked to do so to avoid vulnerabilities. Encrypting sensitive data can also cut the risks significantly.

Zuckerberg doubles bet on Metaverse

When Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook's controlling holding company would be called Meta in 2021, no one doubted that his bet on the metaverse was for real.

A little over a year later, however, Meta dismissed 11 000 employees in 2022, equivalent to 13% of its workforce — the biggest cut in Facebook's eighteen-year history. Also last year, the company's shares plunged 66%.

Confident, Zuckerberg doubled his bet on the project. In the last days of 2022, Meta announced that it will dedicate 20% of its resources to Reality Labs, the business division responsible for technologies related to virtual reality.Reality Labs had losses of 9.4 billion dollars in the first nine months of 2022, while the group of apps formed by Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger had a profit of 32 billion dollars.

Zuckerberg stated that he does not believe that humanity will use the same current computers and devices in the next ten years, and is willing to contribute to the creation of new technologies.
