Our new Local Plan - our blueprint for growth in Lewisham - is one step closer to being adopted

Our new Local Plan sets out a shared vision for the future of the borough along with the planning and investment framework to deliver this vision through to 2040.

We're excited to share that it has now progressed to the next stage (Main Modifications from the Inspector), moving it one step closer to being adopted.

It will include policies and guidelines used to determine planning applications, together with the London Plan and Neighbourhood Plans to ensure the growth Lewisham needs, keeps moving forward, with clear deadlines and accountability.

The Local Plan aims to:

? Deliver more affordable housing, ensuring new developments meet local needs

? Support high streets and local businesses, protecting jobs and investment

? Prioritise sustainability, with better green spaces and net-zero commitments

? Improve public transport links, reducing car dependency

? Give communities a real say in shaping their neighbourhoods

This means that, if we stay on track, the Local Plan could be fully adopted by late summer 2025—bringing much-needed clarity and direction for our borough’s development.

This is a great plan. Well done to all officers involved. Particular praise to Emma Talbot who led this work at Lewisham before starting a new role.
