Your to-do list is getting longer and longer.?

The weekend seems so close but yet so far.

You’re on your third coffee already.?

Your boss mentioned about you booking an away day for next year.?

That to-do list is getting longer…

It’s the last thing you need!

You know you need to think about planning it but you’ve no idea where to start.?

Let us lend you a hand ??

We get LOADS of questions about our sessions but there’s four particular ones that always pop up.?

The answers to these should make your planning that little bit easier…and allow you to cross at least one thing off that to-do list!?

1. What is the problem with team building and icebreaker activities?

The problem with team building and icebreaker activities is that many people have a negative attitude towards them.?

Why? It’s a big question.?

A question we’ve tried to answer at Laughtercise.?

We’ve talked to hundreds of people, and one of our findings is certainly interesting:?

Never use the word ? ‘Icebreaker’ ?

Another big problem is that team building activities (delivered in-house) haven’t evolved much over the last 30 years.?

One example is the game 2 truths and 1 lie.

?If you search on Google for team building activities, just about every resource will tell you to play this game with your work colleagues.

We’re telling you to NOT play it.?

Why? Because after speaking to hundreds of people, most people don’t like doing it as a team building activity at work because…

?? It forces people to talk individually in front of a large group (and about themselves)

?? It forces people to talk in front of people they don’t feel completely comfortable with

?? The more extroverted team members will shine too bright and they’ll waffle on for ages!

2. How do you facilitate team building activities?

Here are some golden rules for facilitating team building activities:

? Try to pick an activity that doesn’t force people to talk in front of the group

? Try to pick an activity that doesn’t shine a bright light on individual performance

? Be brave – pick an activity that most of your team won’t have done previously

? Be prepared – have everything ready to go

? Keep it short in comparison to the overall content/time of your meeting

3. Why use team building activities?

Team building activities are a great way for your team to bond outside of normal working patterns.?

Team building activities should be used regularly throughout the year to help your team unwind, de-stress and generally have some fun!

4. How often should you facilitate fun team building activities?

It’s a good idea to facilitate in-house team building activities at regular points each year.?

But it’s about quality, not quantity.?

And think about your workload too, don’t take too much on.?

All you need are a few fun team building activities at a couple of meetings throughout the year and maybe one big team building event per year.?

Job done ?

And that’s it!?

I really hope that helped you in your team building activity quest!
