Our Memories

Whenever I receive a six-digit authentication code, I say it loudly. It's how I remember the sequence of digits before entering them into the system.

However, before driving to a new address, I open the map and try to memorize all the turns visually instead of reading the step-wise descriptions.

The first step towards a good memory is to decide which information to keep in our visual memory and which ones in our auditory memory.

The general rule is if the information is one-dimensional, we should keep it in our auditory memory. However, if not, visual memory is more effective.
