Our many parts
“I am large, I contain multitudes”?—?Walt Whitman, Song of Myself?
We contain many parts.?
There’s a part of me that wants to do really well at my job, another part that enjoys playing the piano, and other parts still that enjoy reading and writing...the list goes on.
Likewise, there are likely many aspects of life ?that feed into your sense of meaning and joy.?
I think we’re most fulfilled when we give time and attention to the parts of us we value.
Conversely, if we ignore any important parts of us for too long our sense of fulfillment becomes depleted.
This all feels akin to routinely watering plants to keep them healthy--being careful not to over- or underwater any of them.
Sometimes I become hyper focused on work at the expense of other parts of me. It doesn’t take long before something feels off, at which point I’ll ask myself:?
“What part of me might I be neglecting?”?
Take care of all the parts of you.?

4 个月Cannot recommend this enough!! It is so, so important for Jack/ Jane to pursue all of his/ her/ their trades, without feeling guilty about it. I have been trying hard lately to embrace all parts of myself, without drowning one alter-ego at the expense of another. Thank you for posting these daily sparks, William Liao. ??
