Our Love for God is reflected in our Response to Him, to His House and to those around us!
If you had to ask any Christian if they love the Lord, their immediate answer would be, ‘Of course, I do!’ And it may also be true to some degree. But how empty or hypocritic is that love that we are happy to speak about, if it has no actions that show that we truly love our Lord Jesus Christ? In the Book of Revelation we read in the second chapter verses four and five, when God speaks to the Church at Ephesus and chastises them for losing their passion and zeal for Him. [Revelation 2:4-5 “Yet I hold this against you: ‘You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.”]. This text may have been directed to the Church at Ephesus, but it fits millions of churches today. Many do not serve the Lord as they are required to do!
John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commandments.” John 21:17 “The third time he [Jesus] said to him [Peter], ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ He said, ‘Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my sheep.’”
?From the above texts we can clearly understand that saying we love is of little consequence to anyone if it is not followed with a reaction of some sort. We often hear the terminology that says, “Talk is cheap!” Yet many millions of Christians all over the world are happy to stay with the ‘cheap talk status.’ In the Scriptures mentioned we are instructed to stop being those who merely use words to convey our message and be the change we want to see in and around our lives. We all know that “Actions speak louder than words!” Yet we would rather say it instead of showing it to God. Remember that God sees the intent of our hearts even before we can utter those words. He sees our selfish motives and mean qualities especially when it comes to Him. The words that were directed to the Church at Ephesus come echoing back to us today – “Repent, and get back to your first love you had for God!”
Love speaks out of a relationship. When we are in relationship with God, there is nothing that we want more than to please Him and do what is pleasing in His sight. While we do not see Him, we should never use the invisible situation as an excuse not to do what we ought to do! Peter clarifies for all of us when he says, “Lord, whom can we go to when thou hast the words of eternal life?” This means that there is no other avenue that we can turn to for salvation, redemption and reconciliation to God, except through Jesus. Job cries out of his suffering to God and declares: “Though He slay me, yet will I serve Him!” The Bible refers to Job as a perfect and upright man. When all the trials of life challenged him at once, he held on firmly to his Redeemer and boldly declared out of his suffering, “My Redeemer Lives! Blessed be the Name of the Lord!”

The Apostle Paul in Romans 8:38-39 declared: “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, now powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Paul is emphasizing the extent of this love that God has graciously poured out upon us, His children. Do we truly understand the magnitude of this love that came to rescue us while we were working against Him? He who brought us out of darkness into this marvelous light, how do we respond to His grace, mercy and love for us? How do we show Him that we love Him without merely telling Him that? We serve the Lord with who we are, with what we have and with all that is within us! Bless His Holy Name!
