Our Legal Minds Not Functioning Fully
The following response to Clyde Weatherhead, an Attorney who comments on FaceBook on some critical matters relating to our Parliament etc. made a comment on the 2nd July concerning Attorney General's Contempt of Parliament Allegations. So many matters deserve and require our thousands of Attorney's At Law here attention, I along with many others wonder why our Legal Minds are not Functioning Fully. Mention was made in my response below on 2 such behaviours and now that our Citizens abroad can return home for tomorrow, the 5th of July 2021, I wonder if redress under our Constitution cannot be obtained for them, having been denied access to their homes and family for so long, whilst others with the right connections, traveled to and from here without any restrictions. As a layman, I am of the view that the Constitution gives us, as Citizens and Residents the Right to be treated Equally Before the Law. The reluctance of so many persons armed with the knowledge to help, not only the persons so aggrieved by management incompetence, nepotism, flagrant disrespect to our quest for democratic living and continuous destruction of efforts to maintain sustainable development, but which also affects them, their loved ones and the future generations of beloved Trinidad and Tobago. The Courts of Law, when fully available, is a major avenue to correct these injustices and abuse of the International Guidelines set for The Rule of Law. Google "Rule of Law" for the Details. Democratic Citizenship (google that too), like what Clyde and others like me practice is another pathway to stop the abuse we are experiencing. One day we will have enough people trained, committed, patriotic, confident and fearless enough, to stand up and demand better from those in authority. Hopefully in my lifetime or yours. We are too rich in human resources, not to be denied their best efforts.
Clyde, your law training would have exposed you to the concept and adherence of the Rule of Law by all so concerned. Access to Justice is a key factor in the practice of the Rule of Law. We lost that fully for a short time and no Attorney or group of Attorneys challenged that in the Court by the Emergency system then in place. We see blatant disregard to the Constitutional Right to Equality Before the Law and still not a peep, far less action from our many trained minds. Since 2019 the PNM majority in the House gave themselves massive pension increases and nothing was done to show how that disenfranchised thousands of seniors from a similar pension consideration. Definitely not an Equality Before the Law practice by Government. More can be said, but I guess it will have to wait until I get my LLB and LEC.
