Our Leadership Team's Message to BGO's Global Employees on Committing to Net Zero by 2050

On the morning of November 1, 2021, BGO's #NetZero journey formally commenced. We kicked off our announcement by addressing our 1400+ change agents and difference-makers in 12 countries and 24 cities.

Today, BentallGreenOak is taking a monumental step forward in our ESG journey. Together with our leadership team spanning our businesses from across the firm, we have announced our commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions in our global operations and the entirety of our assets under management by 2050 or sooner.

Our intention to get to Net Zero has been more than a decade in the making. Every year, our asset management and property management teams in every region, alongside BGO’s Sustainable Investing and Corporate teams have been seized with the challenge of analyzing and incrementally reducing the environmental footprint of the assets that we manage on behalf of our investors and we’ve had a consecutive run of success that is well known and very well respected. Whether it is top placement in various global rankings or receiving international distinction in areas of energy efficiency , social progress and environmental performance , a culture of ESG excellence is what we have built here at BGO.

A culture in which last year’s excellence is this year’s mark to beat, and year over year our real estate assets are consuming less energy and water, producing less waste and GHGs, and modernizing for long term resilience and the ability to adapt to changing times and more volatile climate events.

These are the new market forces that we face head on with confidence and determination stemming from a deep understanding of our industry that each of you brings to the table, and what will be required for us to position our portfolios for outstanding performance in the years ahead.???

Our mission as a trusted fiduciary, manager and provider of real estate services is clear: to fulfill the mandates we have been given by our clients by delivering outstanding investment and ESG performance, and the highest standards of property operations in the world so that our properties become destinations of choice for our present and prospective tenants. Over the next 12 months, BGO will be establishing its first set of firm targets and we’ll be certain to share our progress with you as we reach key milestones.

Our Net Zero goal is a #TeamBGO effort from here onward and all 1400+ professionals at BGO will be hard at work to deliver on our commitments so that the future generations we serve will look to this moment as a movement that brought lasting change.
