Our last few shows were pretty fresh ????
Like John Cusack in Say Anything fresh; especially for AI chip maker 英伟达 whose stock posted a record daily profit of $277B. Makes sense, last year they sold 2.5M chips for around $40k each and demand was still unmet.
February was also marvelous for us Zombies, who feasted on the brains from world class experts on music, math, biology, and more. Are you salivating yet? We thought so, lets dive into Volume 16 ??
Math, Music, & Holograms - oh my! ??
A hush falls over the crowd as the lights dim, and cellist Yves Dhar sits amidst an enchanting orchestra. His cello's large hollow body contributes to its resonant quality, allowing deep, richly textured notes to ring out and fill the gorgeous California Theatre. And soon, Yves would battle a hologram ??
Sharyn Bires and Nick Larson had the honor of moderating a pre-performance panel with Grammy nominated and Emmy-winning master composer Adam Schoenberg and mathematician Dr. kathryn leonard , who created an AI model to for AGNES (the digital cellist). All around a truly exceptional experience from Symphony San Jose , quarterbacked by Executive Director Robert Massey.
"The first job for any composer is you're writing a piece of music that will hopefully engage the players, with the audience. I always think of narratives...I've written pieces based on the painting of Mark Rothko, I wrote a piece for the San Francisco Symphony on Climate Change...we wanted (Automation) to be very accessible; a cinematic concerto." -Adam Schoenberg
This epic and mesmerizing concerto explored the connection between humans and machines; a collaborative worked titled 'Automation' by Dhar and Adam Schoenberg.
Blurred Boundaries of Ownership
Current Large Language Models (LLM's) are doing averaging, so over time you'll get the same experience unless there is some kind of novelty or new data introduced. But who actually owns the content that an AI model creates? We're seeing this now with the recent lawsuit around the late comedian George Carlins IP.
"We built AGNES, AGNES generated music, and the music came from the public domain. It can be hard to untangle; I like to think of the technology as a collaborator" - Dr. Kathryn Leonard
"Based on what I've seen in the public domain, I'm not worried about AGI coming out anytime soon; If anything, I'm more worried about the people attributing that level of intelligence to models that don't have those capabilities then trusting them too much." -Dr. Kathryn Leonard
This dueling banjo-esque performance captivated the audience with story telling, gorgeous harmony, and visual projections. Watch the full episode below, and be sure to check out more at Symphony San Jose.
Emerging Tech: It's Happening Locally, It's Happening Globally ??
At the center of this quantum leap? Convergence.
We were delighted to host pain doctor and blockchain expert Alex Cahana, MD and quant investor / PhD / founder Sahirzeeshan (Sahir) Ali for our 122nd show at the Park James Hotel to explore how the global impact of emerging tech.
The Year of Bio, The Century of Bio ??
If that last century was marked by the silicon revolution (and the iconic 'chip'), the next will be the biotech. Connecting the "pill" to "tech" will yield unprecedented benefits to humanity's collective health. Sahirzeeshan (Sahir) Ali puts it perfectly:
"What I'm really excited about, is in the last 10-15 years what has been theoretical is now becoming very practical...we can flip the model; we can turn off the disease and the cells become the pills." - Dr. Sahir Ali
Who Does Healthcare Best? ????????????
If the US healthcare system is broken, who does it better? Alex Cahana, MD says Switzerland, because of their focus on preventative measures and first getting the basics right. "It's not a pill for every ill, a test for every pest," but eating well, sleeping well, and exercise. Singapore and New Zealand are likewise pushing the limits by leveraging technology.

"Instead of being patient-centric, the focus instead is patient-driven." - Dr. Alex Cahana
How are these technologies being used together?
We live in a world where the only thing that connects the hospital and the patients information is the individual; herein lies a perfect use case for blockchain, where the user gets to decide who uses their personal health information.
There are dozens of different technologies in the space; AI for predictive analytics, blockchain for encryption, and tele-health for remote monitoring. Yes there is organ printing, brain to computer interface systems, nano-bots and more. But the real leap is the 'horiztontality' approach as opposed to silo'd tracks.
What is the opposite of health? ??
According to Dr. Alex, it's not disease or sickness, it's isolation. He goes on to explain that in Finland ???? there are social programs that house young students (who couldn't afford to live in Helsinki) with older people that suffer from isolation. This creates a social fabric; It's a journey back to wellness. Alex also mentioned, "If you take the 'I' out out illness, and replace it with 'we' you get wellness."

Interesting AF ??
In the 1990s, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and his son, Kim Jong-un, reportedly used counterfeit Brazilian passports ???? for international travel, including the happiest place on earth (no, not Finland ????) but Disneyland. Operating under the aliases Josef Pwag and Ijong Tchoi, these passports were primarily used for visa applications in foreign embassies, allowing them to travel discreetly. This practice was part of the secretive family's efforts to avoid international detection and scrutiny.
