Our Journey of Public Service continues

Our Journey of Public Service continues

Sometimes I wish I owned a small café and that my brain permitted me moments of calmness, where I didn’t care to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders

Surprisingly it was in my first electoral exercise earlier this year I learnt to reduce some of that weight. To truly apply what I know about one’s own limitations, and the importance of knowing it takes many people to get things done, and the patience required to participate in the process of progress.

I’m entirely passionate about and committed to offering myself to public service, in fact it is my purpose in life, to offer, so I keep reading and studying and learning daily, and listening and watching, daily, some of the most interesting things I can get my hands on.

On Friday I couldn’t really hold myself to reading more than 2 pages of the book I’m currently reading. So I listened to Hasan Minhaj‘s exchange with Bernie Sanders that I found both very critical, and encouraging with his very pragmatic views on the pace of progress.

I also read a couple of foreign policy articles and an interesting article on Ancient Greek rhetoric used by Kamala Harris and her teams during the DNC.

Running my first election, and the entire process to being one of six candidates in the first place, was one of the most exhausting exercises I’ve ever attempted.

And yet, as summer concludes, I remain hopeful about our future.

Firstly because we can’t give up, secondly because I believe in you.

I believe in the people that call Luxembourg and Europe home.

I believe in our collective ambitions for this small corner of the world, our collective determination to both preserve what are certainly hard-earned privileges, but also build a fairer, more equitable world, and that: by exporting our learnings, into the far greater outside world, through our partners, allies and friends.

I am hopeful.

And I will continue to do everything within my power to offer the best of myself to you.

Christos FLOROS the message of hope and how public service is a calling really strike a chord with me. I can imagine how exhausting the process is and continuing to take steps forward can be both challenging and lonely. I would only suggest that you remember to take care of your own wellbeing, being kind to yourself is not only good for you but serves as a model for those around you to also take care of themselves. Finally the world is not just on your shoulders, there are many of us who, with the opportunity to do so, would help ensure Luxembourg continues to be brave.
