Our History - Royal LePage & Royal LePage Commercial a leader in Canadian Real Estate Since 1913

Commercial Real Estate services are part of the Royal LePage story, which began with the founding of the company in 1913 by Albert Edward (A.E.) LePage.

By the 1920s, “Eddie,” as he was known, was a key advocate for organized real estate and helped to establish the Toronto Real Estate Board, bringing about industry standards for ethical conduct, service delivery and professional development.

Following Eddie’s retirement, A.E. LePage president Gordon Gray orchestrated one of the most complex real estate deals to date, assembling land in 1957 for the construction of the $125 million Toronto-Dominion Centre.

During the 1960s, buoyed by its success, the A.E. LePage company substantially expanded its commercial real estate brokerage. By the 1970s, A.E. LePage’s commercial offering was extended nationally, adding shopping centre consulting, property management and leasing to the suite of services.

In 1984, the A.E. LePage company merged with the real estate arm of Royal Trust to form Royal LePage making it the largest real estate brokerage in Canada. Then, in 1999, Royal LePage became a wholly owned subsidiary of Brascan Corporation (now Brookfield Asset Management:Brookfield Asset Management Inc. is Canadian based company and is one of the world’s largest alternative investment management companies with US$626bn of AUM. It focuses on direct control investments in real estate, renewable power, infrastructure, credit and private equity.) The residential and commercial brokerage operations were then separately incorporated.

Through the early 2000s, Royal LePage Commercial Inc. grew to become Canada’s leading full-service commercial real estate firm with 520 employees. In 2005, Cushman & Wakefield Inc. acquired the license to operate Royal LePage Commercial Inc. During that time, commercial real estate sales practitioners have continue to operate within the Royal LePage network, defining themselves as dedicated commercial specialists.

In 2012 Royal LePage relaunched its commercial division.
