Our Head Chef Graeme Campbell: Serving Up Safety in his Local Community

In the hospitality industry, we often celebrate culinary achievements and guest service milestones. Today, however, we shine the spotlight on a different kind of community service—one that underscores our commitment not just to hospitality, but to health and safety. Graeme Campbell, our esteemed head chef at the South Court Hotel, has recently taken a remarkable step in community safety that truly deserves recognition.

Graeme is an active member of the Loughill Ballyhahill Community Text Alert Team and serves as one of its dedicated first responders. This vital role came into fruition following his participation in the Platinum Safety First Aid Response course hosted at our hotel. Over three intensive days, Graeme and other hotel employees were immersed in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ranging from managing injuries and shock to administering CPR for adults and infants.

The First Aid Response course is designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in emergencies. It covered a wide array of scenarios, ensuring that each attendee not only understood the theoretical underpinnings of first aid but could also apply their knowledge practically in a crisis. Successful completion of the course awarded participants with a two-year certification, preparing them to handle potential emergencies with confidence and competence.

The importance of community readiness for emergencies cannot be overstated, and Graeme's involvement with the Loughill Ballyhahill Text Alert and Defib and First Responder Group is a testament to this fact. Inspired by their very own young entrepreneurs who raised funds to install a defibrillator at Kilteery Pier, the community group has expanded their efforts, funding three additional child-adaptable defibrillators and heater boxes across the parish. As reported in last Wednesday’s edition of the Observer & also on the Limerick Leader, the group operates a 24/7 roster to ensure that every corner of the parish is covered in the event of an emergency. This initiative not only enhances community safety but also fosters a spirit of mutual aid and preparedness that is crucial in times of need.

The initiative to train staff members as first responders extends beyond the South Court Hotel. Employees from sister properties including Ballykisteen Golf Hotel, Great National Ballina, and The Commons Hotel in Cork have also benefited from this training, enhancing safety standards across our network and showcasing our group’s dedication to community and guest safety.

Our head chef, Graeme Campbell, had this to say about his involvement in the initiative:

I am very proud to be part of this wonderful initiative. We are one of the first parish's in Ireland to undertake something of this sort, and we hope it will start a snowball effect in creating more similar committees nationwide. My own children were a part of the incredible Junior Wren-Boy & Girls Group who raised the funds for the Defib in Kilteery so our entire family are proud to be from this Parish.

At the South Court Hotel, we are incredibly proud of Graeme’s contributions both in the kitchen and in his local community. His dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of those around him reflects the core values of our hotel and the Great National Group at large. We celebrate Graeme’s commitment and encourage more of our team members to follow in his footsteps, proving that in our community, we not only serve but also protect.

Please see the image above from a recent feature in the newspaper, showcasing the dedicated first responders. Graeme is the cheerful gentleman third from the right. We've also included a card below that circulates throughout the parish, detailing the locations of the defibrillators and providing essential contact numbers for emergencies, including the Defib & First Responder Emergency line at 069-31113. This resource is vital for ensuring quick and effective response in times of need.

The Text Alert Committee went door to door around the locality with these printed cards containing the locations of all 11 Parish Defibrillators which also has the very important phone number of 069-31113
