Our guide to social commerce 2022
Social media has become a virtual shopping centre, right in the palm of our hands. We can find inspiration, browse products, purchase directly from posts, stories and videos and post purchase reviews.
It’s called social commerce when you buy and sell products or services directly from a social media platform. 73% of businesses are already doing business this way.
So what’s new in social commerce?
Instagram Shops make it easier for businesses to build online stores and Instagram's Shoppable Stories let you add a product sticker to purchase without leaving the app.
With the rising demand for shopping on the app, Pinterest has introduced a Shop tab — a dedicated tab where users can search and purchase from Pins directly through Pinterest or the retailer’s website.
Try On is also a really cool new feature on Pinterest. It’s not yet in Australia, but coming soon. Try on makeup or clothing by virtually trying them on in the Pinterest app using your camera. You can also try home decor pieces by virtually placing them in your space. If you like what you see, you can buy it right away, or save it to a board and buy it later.
When a business sets up TikTok Shopping, it will have a dedicated Shopping tab, set up live shopping offers, real-time demos and live-streamed product showcases with relevant links to buy products and services. Customers can then buy within TikTok or checkout through the company’s website.
