Our Future View, Validated By NASA Contracts
I love working at Boeing because we’re changing the world by shaping the future of aerospace. Recent contract awards announced by NASA shows the agency agrees with our vision for how we can deliver ultra-efficient transport aircraft for the future.
NASA studied five aircraft concepts for its Ultra-Efficient Subsonic Technology X-plane demonstrator program, a public-private effort to develop technologies that will lead to transport aircraft with substantial improvements in fuel, noise and operational efficiency. Boeing and Aurora Flight Sciences were awarded three contracts for different aircraft concepts. Boeing teams won for the Blended Wing Body and the Transonic Truss-Braced Wing concepts, while Aurora won for its D8 concept, also known as the “double bubble.”
The contracts will allow the teams to reduce technology risk and continue to make advances on their concepts before the first demonstrator vehicles fly in the mid-2020s.
The results of these awards will benefit the entire U.S. aerospace industry. They’ll also be yet another outstanding example of how the people of Boeing and Aurora are committed to shaping the future.
Congratulations to everyone on the awardee teams at Boeing and Aurora Flight Sciences! We look forward to seeing how these teams will change the world! #changetheworld
