Our first 3 months carbon positive
Over the past 3 months, we have made big changes internally to help NOSY become less environmentally impactful. We’re passionate about saving the planet and wanted to 'walk the walk' within our organisation.
One of the big changes is shifting our focus towards working with GreenTech and environmentally-conscious brands. ??
Green collaboration
We’ve been working closely with Innovate UK EDGE on a series of videos to spread awareness for companies within the GreenTech and Technology sectors. Several of these videos have been published already, attracting national attention from Innovate UK. We've published the first case study for this project, 'Deep dive into UK's largest supplier of ocean science technology', which you can explore here.
Offsetting our carbon footprint
Since January, we’ve been offsetting our carbon footprint by planting trees and investing in renewable technology via Ecologi. So far we’ve been able to plant 400 trees and offset 26 tons of carbon dioxide. You can plant?more trees in our forest, or explore the environmental projects our initiative is helping to support.
Networking with rubbish?
In February we hosted a new event called?Rubbish Networking. Attendees can chat?to like-minded people whilst collecting litter in a pre-selected area of the Isle of Wight. This is an ongoing event with the next one in April.?Sign up?to help us beat our previous record of 60kg of litter.
"The principle?of this event is very simple: bring the community together and pick up rubbish. Yet, the climate problem we face is complex. It’s hard to see how collecting?a few bags of rubbish solves it. But perhaps by combining several simple ideas we can make a big impact." - Matt Greg
Sharing ideas via an Eco Workshop
We’ve recently introduced an internal Eco Workshop. This is an opportunity for staff to share ideas, implement new eco policies, share learnings and discuss how we can help reduce our environmental impact. We’ve gathered data which we’re currently working into our new environmental management system (EMS) alongside an updated environmental policy and an impact report.
Green Impact Award
We have also signed up to a new eco scheme via the Isle of Wight Council called 'Green Impact Award', which sets out tasks to reduce our carbon footprint.
Our Operations Director April has been working hard in the background against the criteria set out by the scheme; ensuring we are ready for the audit at the end of 2022.
The Future
We aim to be transparent with our eco journey and will be working on a new page to showcase our efforts and impact on our website. Even though we’re not quite there yet we hope this inspires you a little to adapt your business to become more environmentally conscious.
Little steps, taken by everyone, can make a big difference.
