Is our education system really useless?
While scrolling through YouTube, I came across a short clip from a popular podcast. The guest confidently declared that our entire education system is bogus. He argued that most concepts we learn in school and college, like differentiation or integration, are never used in real life.
The guest went on to say: "Imagine if, instead of learning these useless topics, you spent years mastering just one skill, like playing the guitar—you'd be the best at it."
This sounds convincing, doesn't it? After all, how often do we really use integration or complex algebra in our daily routines?
But let’s take a closer look.
1. More Than Just Concepts
When we learn mathematics (e.g., differentiation and integration), we aren’t just learning equations. We’re developing:
The process of understanding a concept, applying it, and solving increasingly complex problems teaches us how to approach challenges in life. Even when we fail, we learn how to adapt and find new ways forward.
2. Soft Skills and Teamwork
Education is not just about what’s in the books. It’s also about:

These are the skills we use every single day—whether in professional environments, personal relationships, or during unexpected challenges.
3. Indirect but Impactful
True, most concepts we learn in school may not directly apply to our lives. But they prepare us—mentally, emotionally, and socially—to face life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.
4. Skills Don't Work in Isolation
The belief that mastering one skill alone will make you successful is misleading. Success often comes from combining multiple skills—problem-solving, communication, adaptability, and technical expertise—to tackle real-world problems.
So, is our education system really useless? Perhaps it’s time to look beyond the textbooks and see the bigger picture: Education builds the foundation of who we are, shaping us into individuals capable of growth, learning, and adaptability.
What are your thoughts? Have you found value in skills or concepts you once considered "useless"?
