Our Dynamic Risk Assessment and the safe use of our Tail Lift Service

We often have to lift heavy or bulky items onto the back of our fleet. In fact, over 40% of our collections or deliveries involve such items, which is where a tail lift comes in handy.

The Anglia Freight fleet is equipped with tail lifts and electric-powered pump trucks to make manual offloading as easy as possible.

Dynamic Risk Assessments are carried out to ensure our drivers, on-site personnel, and those our business activities affect are kept safe during the unloading process, supporting our drivers’ safety and well-being.

What is a Dynamic Risk Assessment?

A Dynamic Risk Assessment is an in-the-moment assessment that confirms it is safe to continue working. It ensures the person is safe, the equipment is safe, and there is a safe system of work.

The Assessment includes:

  • Assessing if the vehicle can be parked safely without causing obstruction
  • Assessment of the floor surface conditions for safe unloading
  • Assessment of whether the palletised freight can be manoeuvred and tail lifted without causing damage or injury

What type of data do we capture, and how is it useful?

We electronically capture Dynamic Risk Assessment data for every tail lift delivery we make. This data includes:

  • Answers to a set of questions relating to the Assessment
  • Vehicle registration
  • Date and time
  • Geographical coordinates for longitude and latitude

This ensures that Anglia Freight and the customer have an audit trail for the risk assessment and proof of delivery.

Dynamic Risk Assessments also help us be proactive in continually assessing, monitoring, and evaluating unstable freight and other hazards, so we can create processes to avoid these occurring in the future.
