Our DTP department points out the most common ordering errors: Part I

Giving shape to a book is a challenging process during which various difficulties and problems may occur. Sometimes they are beyond the control of the client or printing house. However, you can avoid many of those problems early on.

How?

In particular by providing the correct designs. So, being aware of this, we have asked our DTP department for a list of common mistakes during the ordering stage.

Let's start with five basics.

Incorrect format:

We work with finished and closed files and do not interfere with the designs of book blocks. We only accept the PDF format.

PDF is also recommended for the covers, but we accept TIFF and JPG aswell. Remember to export your TIFF file without conversions and with all layers merged. For JPG, it's important to note that minimum resolution is 300 DPI.

Block format is not compatible with your order:

All pages in the file should be the same size. If some of them need bleeds, the size of each page in order must be given in gross format (with bleeds).

Incorrectly prepared cover:

The success of a printed book depends on its appearance. We are aware of this and have created a cover template generator for you to avoid problems during designing phase.

An incorrect number of pages in a book:

Remember that it must be even and identical to the order. For sewn titles, the number of pages must be divisible by 4. These are technological requirements. We may add blank pages in the end if they are not fulfilled.

Pagination on the wrong page:

We follow the standard rule that pagination with an odd number in the file should also be on an odd page. If this is not the case in your project, please inform us about it in the comment section when placing your order.

These are the top five most common problems encountered by our DTP department. We'll share more with you over time.

Write to us if any issue is of particular interest to you or requires further explanation.
