~ Our Dog "Sandy" ~ Saturday, August 26, 2023 is International Dog Day ~ I NEVER bark-up-the-wrong-tree ~
By Danny McCarthy
While residing in Jamaica Estates (Queens, New York) we had Mulligan, an airdale terrier who passed away and was replaced by beagle-mix Sandy. Not exactly sure if Sandy was named similar to the Annie Sandy as she like Mulligan was adopted.
Sandy would KNOW when it was time to eat. She was sure to receive MILK-BONEs every once-in-awhile. She liked RECIPE for sure.
In 1988 we my parents -{ & }- I relocated to Southold, New York. Dad was driving mom -{ & }- I as I sat in the passenger seat with Sandy. There was a double rainbow in the sky as we reached Exit 73 at Riverhead, New York. Sandy was calm and we were going to wind-up at Founders Village in Southold. Gary was "in-charge" of Founders Village BUT OUR UNIT was not ready. Gary let us know that we could check at local places-to-stay and that he would pay for the stay.
At that time we could not have Sandy be w/ us so we went back to see Gary. He then said we all including Sandy of course could stay in a seperate unit already ready AND we could leave the a/c (air-conditioning) ON AT NO COST TO US.
You see folks - better yet - YOU SEA FOLKS {as we were having a MARITIME in Southold}. - Sandy was ALSO comforted by the a/c.
I honestly FORGET the time/date/year {Mulligan AND} Sandy passed away. Dad passed away July 1993 -{ & }- mom passed away November 16, 2015.
There are photos carrying BOTH pets atop my kitchen refrigerator. I'll bring the frame some time next week to Southold INK SPOT for someone on-staff to create jpegs of each dog photo to add to this post of mine. Picture-the-thought.
