Our COVID-19 Response

Our COVID-19 Response

It’s an inexplicable feeling watching something sinister come your way and feel absolutely helpless to protect your community and those you love, knowing that their protection depends on a lot of things, some of which are beyond your control. And it was certainly very interesting,  at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, reading different theories on why Africa didn’t seem to be as affected as the other continents.

The reality is that, like most people, we too are scared. We don’t have the most robust health systems and watching how more developed countries are being ravaged by Covid-19 underscores just how vulnerable we are. Similarly, there are a million statistics out there on the number of small businesses that won’t make it through this pandemic. As a small business, we’ve had to review our strategies to make sure that we are prepared as best as we can for the days ahead. Sammy Davis Jr. said it well, “ You always have two choices: your commitment versus your fear.” We are choosing commitment.

As a small business committed to social impact, we are cognizant of the worries our staff are facing and commit to keep everyone on the payroll and ride through this together. We also, prior to Covid-19, ensured that everyone is on a health insurance program that ensures they are covered in case of any eventualities. There were concerns that Covid-19 would not be covered by Kenyan insurers but thankfully, the Kenyan Government intervened through the Insurance Regulatory Authority to ensure that insurance companies cover the Covid-19 and related illnesses. We are also all working from home and practicing social distance. As a mostly direct to consumer business, we also appreciate the government’s efforts in introducing free 4G internet that facilitates businesses like us that continue to work remotely and fast-tracking of VAT refunds to improve cash flows.

While we have no idea how the world will look like post-Covid-19, what we do know is that there are some fundamental human qualities that will never change. Qualities like belonging to a community, wanting the best for the planet and mother nature, and the hope that we will always triumph regardless of all the odds.

From us at Enda, keep safe and remember to keep exercising (in your own home or with strict social distancing of course)!

I am so glad that i found the Enda community. Thank you for sharing how you are also taking care of your staff at this precarious time. I am because We are. We'll get through this together.

Wishing you and your team all the best, Nava. I've actually been running more (at a safe distance!) this last week. Curious to know when your yellow and blue lapatets will be available to purchase?
