Our Core Values

In my travels this last week I met with other contractors we have teamed with and other companies we may team with. In discussions like these, our Core Values are always discussed. Have you looked at our Gilbane Building Company Core Values lately? Much of what each of us deal with everyday puts these values front and center, even if we do not realize it. INTEGRITY. It is first on the list for a reason. Doing the “right” thing, ethically, is the glue that holds the company together. TOUGHMINDEDNESS. We each face situations that demand courage. Toughmindedness to protect the interests of our shareholders, our clients, our co-workers; all within the cloak of integrity. TEAMWORK. There is no “I” in team. We know this. Our collective abilities compound when we work together. DEDICATION TO EXCELLENCE. We hear this in our customer surveys, to them it is a clear issue. We either are or we are not dedicated to excellence and the responsibility rests with each of us in our daily work. LOYALTY. I hear employees talk about this Core Value frequently. Often Loyalty can put us in conflict with other Core Values. But when taken in total context of our values, it is clear. DISCIPLINE. One of the hardest ones to keep consistently. We work far and wide via our Playbooks, standards, training etc., to help us keep consistent and true to all our Core Values and commitments. CARING. Although we added Caring as a Core Value long ago, we see more and more of our peer companies chiming in, adding this to their list of values. Listing Caring is fine, but a family company that shows it cares top to bottom and from within to each other plus our caring for the thousands under our watch on our job sites, cannot be faked. We know our sense of family and caring make us different and does separate us from the norm.
