Our commitment to Women and Girls football
FC United of Manchester is committed to supporting women’s and girls’ football. Everyone is welcome at FC United, whether on the pitch or in the stands.
Our Women’s team, set up in 2012, play their matches at Broadhurst Park, in our main stadium in front of crowds of around 300 fans, demonstrating the club's commitment to providing equal opportunities and facilities for all our teams.
This season, we’re launching a new football academy for girls and a development team, creating a clear pathway to the first team. This ensures young female players have structured opportunities to progress in the sport.
We also work closely with Moston Juniors, and this season we’re starting new U15 and U16 girls’ teams, giving young players more chances to play and improve.
Our aim is to become the leading fan-owned female team worldwide, committed to nurturing local talent by building a high-performance structure.
This season, we have our sights on winning promotion back to the 4th Tier of the Women's League Pyramid, to compete once again, like we did last season, with the likes of Leeds United, Middlesborough, Barnsley, Stockport and York.
Our Women’s first team manager Jennie Swarbrick recently signed a new contract to extend her commitment to the club for a further two years.
As we reaffirm our commitment to women and girls’ football by agreeing a playing budget for the women’s team for next season, for the first time in the club’s history, we firmly believe that Jennie is the right manager to lead us on this journey. Her track record of success and player development makes her an invaluable part of our vision for women’s and girls’ football at FC United.

“I’m proud to be the manager of FC United’s women’s team and to be given this opportunity to continue the work we’ve begun. We built some momentum towards the end of last season, particularly in winning the Manchester FA Challenge Cup trophy, and I’m very much looking forward to strengthening our talented young squad over the summer and pushing on next season and also continuing to lead the club on its journey to developing women’s and girls’ football. I would like to thank the Board, my backroom team, the players, all our other staff and volunteers and, of course, the club’s fans and owners for the tremendous support you’ve given me”.
Board chair Nick Boom , speaking on behalf of the Board, added:
“Our vision for women’s and girls’ football at FC United is an ambitious one and we are delighted that Jennie has agreed to continue this journey with us. We saw last season how Jennie’s profile and connections within the game enabled us to develop relationships with clubs at Women’s Super League and Championship level and bring in some talented players on loan. We very much look forward to continuing to work with Jennie to not only target success on the pitch but to raise the profile of women’s and girls’ football in north Manchester and introduce a development pathway to the first team for young players. We are excited about what we can achieve, on and off the pitch, over the next few years”.
We invite potential sponsors and stakeholders to join us in our mission to create lasting benefits in women's football, ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate and thrive.
