Our commitment to connect with the community
Victoria Police is affirming its commitment to the community with a new grassroots approach launching across the state today.
With Victoria returning to normal from the worst of the global pandemic, Chief Commissioner Shane Patton's back-to-basics initiative will see police increase their focus on the issues that matter most to local communities.
It sees police engage with the local community to strengthen relationships, share intelligence and find out what issues people care about most. These are recorded in a community issues register with officers tasked to specifically address concerns and report back to residents on what's been done.
Police work with partners like local councils, community groups and government agencies when issues are more complex. Other initiatives such as local safety committees and CommSafe forums are also being set up in each police service area so members can directly discuss issues with the public and partner agencies.
This effort has already been used in Clayton to tackle a spate of street robberies targeting students and healthcare workers walking to the train station.

Police conducted additional patrols in the area, teamed up with the local council to improve lighting on back streets and had messages conveying important safety advice placed on the footpath. Robberies have dropped from a peak of more than 20 a week to fewer than one a month.
Neighbourhood Policing has also enabled police to stop illegal beach parties along the foreshore at Half Moon Bay and Black Rock, combat monkey bike hoons plaguing public reserves in Frankston and deter offending around retail precincts in Ballarat.
Victoria Police is also embarking on a major effort to hear what Victorians want from police, with a community sentiment survey covering every local government area within the state launching today.?The survey will gauge how safe people feel, their ideas to improve safety, how they want to engage with police and how comfortable they feel approaching police and PSOs.

2 年This is what VicPol does (recent cases): Terrorizing disabled persons during "welfare checks"; rendering innocent community members "disabled" through physical altercations in bookstores (Fitzroy); dragging people out of their homes and causing permanent life-long damage (quadriplegia) just because they played music too loud; assaulting those suffering psychosis; assault at Flinders St station; choking women; arresting pregnant women (when a warning would have sufficed); physically assaulting a medical doctor because she provided assistance to a wounded/hurt person; falsely accusing another GP of stealing wine from a grog shop... and the list goes on and on (including 258,000 fake breath tests, and a Veteran Victoria Police officer hit with 87 corruption charges this year, sharing photos of Dani Laidley.... and more and more and more), all documented. VicPol is "Just doing their job" - I don't think so.

2 年Dear Victoria Police, thanks for putting this survey out. I have completed it, however on getting to the end and realising as a white Australian I am not a priority is quite frankly disgusting. Perhaps that’s why the police in my area were not willing to do more to charge a driver when he almost killed my daughter recently. Maybe it was because we clearly aren’t in a minority group. Thanks.

2 年In come countries the police are seen and trained to be the peacemakers of this world, they are trained in Mindfulness - thus training the mind and reminding people about intention, attention and attitude, thus law of karma, cause and effect. Creating more happiness in a society that is good for the society. The police remind people of such things, though these countries still have some issues, not to the extent some countries have. The practice of Mindfulness is a way of life and a more positive way of being. Many books on Mindfulness and other wise words from people who look at the bigger picture.

2 年Would not it be refreshing to see police on patrol in cars, motor bikes, foot patrol. Or when public holidays are with us actually be seen on the highways as a TRUE VISUAL DETERENT instead of catching the dumb drivers. Each public holiday in Victoria we hear about the road blitz but I never see any police. And I am usually driving somewhere. Maybe recruit a few to replace those leaving PLUS the growing urban spread.
