Charity of the Year Update - Part 2 of 3

In this charity update, we're proud to introduce The Cindy Appleyard Foundation and the fundraising efforts by our Manchester team.

About The Cindy Appleyard Foundation.

The Cindy Appleyard Foundation was created because its founders believe that no family should have to face the stress and financial burden associated with having a child hospitalised. Their grants help cover the costs of families who have to leave their homes, schools, jobs, friends and family behind to be near to their sick child in hospital. This enables families to stay together and focus on what really matters – their child’s recovery.

How has Ward Hadaway supported The Cindy Appleyard Foundation so far?

Financial Assistance

Just before Christmas 2023, we had the privilege of assisting a family from Manchester facing a challenging situation. Their young child had been admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital, requiring the child's mother to relocate to the hospital whilst the father stayed at home to care for their other two children. Unfortunately, due to the distance and associated travel costs, the family had been unable to be together for several months.

Thanks to the generous donations from Ward Hadaway fundraising events, we were able to offer a grant to the family via The Cindy Appleyard Foundation. This grant provided the family with the opportunity to spend a few precious days together at Christmas.

Bake Sales, Sporting Activities and more

  • Bake sales (there is a theme throughout the three offices and their love of cake!)
  • Solicitor Catriona Thomson ran 10k and raised almost £1,000 for the charity

Action-shot taken during Catriona's 10k run.

  • A Christmas raffle helped to raise much needed funds for the charity.

Walk this May

To encourage everyone to prioritise their mental health and participate in fundraising, we're launching our own version of Walk this May - an initiative inspired by Living Streets.

We're encouraging everyone to take their lunchtime break away from their desks and embark on a one-mile walk.

For every 150 walks completed, the Firm will donate to our Charities of the Year.

We'll keep you updated of everyone's progress via LinkedIn updates.

With many more initiatives to come throughout 2024.

Fantastic that Ward Hadaway are championing The Cindy Appleyard Foundation this year and helping to raise vital funds for the charity to carry on supporting families of critically ill children. The charity needs further fundraising champions to keep their vital support for families going.
