Our Clinical Programs

Melbourne Centre for Women’s Mental Health is dedicated to providing high-quality programs that aim to empower women in all aspects of life.?Our Centre has three 'Departments', including our original Clinical Programs.

Our Department of Clinical Programs has a strong focus on feminist therapy and anti-oppressive practice. We have just signed more incredible women onto the Clinical Team to provide TeleHealth videoconference mental health support. Our team has expertise in many areas including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, and self-esteem. We believe in empowering women by acknowledging and addressing the broader sociocultural factors that contribute to their mental health struggles. We recognise that it's not simply a matter of "what's wrong with you," but rather, "what happened to you" and how we can support you in emerging stronger and healthier. This approach reduces the pathologising and medicalising of suffering. Instead, we focus on fostering a holistic understanding of our client experience, recognising that mental health is influenced by a multitude of factors such as societal norms, systemic biases, and personal traumas. Our team of highly trained therapists actively work to create an inclusive and affirming space where all women, regardless of their background or identity, can feel seen, heard, and supported.

We believe in inherent strengths and potential for growth in all women. Our goal is to support our clients in emerging stronger and more resilient. Our team offer evidence based psychological interventions (including CBT-E and Narrative Therapy), feminist psychotherapy, counselling, meditation, creative arts therapy, structured DBT skills training and much more. Each program offered to clients is individualised to suit them best.

In addition to therapeutic programs, we also offer Comprehensive Assessments for women aged 19+ years that are designed to provide detailed information about the clients neurocognitive profile. These assessments are offered to provide support and clarity for women who want to better understand their unique cognitive and sensory profile and some who are seeking to determine the presence of ADHD or Autism. Whilst many clients are seeking assessment for the presence or absence of 'disorders' such as ADHD and Autism, we prefer to move away from diagnosing profiles such as ADHD and Autism as 'disorders', and instead empower neurodivergent clients with information about their unique cognitive profile, how that impacts on daily life and ideas for how to navigate the world accordingly.?At the same time, we understand that for many people using this type of approach and examining the 'diagnostic' criteria for these presentations can be helpful and so we do also include this in the assessment at the clients request. We also offer Emotion Regulation Skills Training, Help with Anxiety, Depression and Eating Issues, Distress Tolerance Skills Training and Support, Interpersonal Communication Skills Training, Sensory Modulation Therapy, Executive Function Strategies, parent support and other forms of support for women and girls who are Autistic and their loved ones and more!
