Featherlite and SS Constrictions: U0 has most open pattern, U4 has tightest
ü0 – cylinder/ Skeet* (in your face, out to 28 yds on edge)
ü1 – Skeet/Improved Cylinder* (out to 35 yds on edge)
ü2 – Light Modified (out to 45 yds on edge)
ü3 – Mod/Improved Mod* (out to 60 yds on edge)
ü4 – Full/Extra Full (beyond 60 yds on edge)
The labeling of constrictions is a little bit different than other chokes. For example, our U1 will give a Skeet diameter outer fringe pattern. But, it will also break targets as far, accurate, and hard as an improved Cylinder due to the even pellet distribution.
How much constriction are the U0, U1, U2, U3, U4 in Thousandths of an inch?
As for the constriction measurements, it is different for every gun due to Jim making gun specific pattern geometry for each gun.
Depending on bore diameter of your gun it will vary a little, but as an average they are approx as follows:
U0 = .002",U1 = .005", U2 = .012", U3 = .022", U4 = .035
What is the difference between Featherlite or Stainless Steel?
Featherlite:
Our Featherlite choke is made out of aluminum and is half the weight of Titanium, 1/3 the weight of steel.
Ceramic Teflon infusion results in the hardest, cleanest choke on the market
Specifically for clay targets
Can only handle certain shot size and material:
Only use lead
Only use size 7.5 or smaller gauge (7.5, 8, 9, etc… is okay)
Nothing “bigger” than 7.5 (NO 7, 6, 3, 2, etc…)
Stainless Steel:
A bit heavier than the featherlite
Can be used for both clay targets and hunting
Many use target guns for hunting so we wanted to have an ultimate choke choice for hunting loads and non toxic shot (anything other than lead)
Made out of Stainless Steel coated with “cerakote” rust preventative military grade coating.
Can handle any size shot or material (no restriction!)
Can use lead, steel, any heavy shot
Can use any size: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8….
What Choke Should I Buy?
Skeet- ü0 (2 U0 for over/under guns)
Trap:
American Trap, Doubles - ü2/ü3
ü2 – for the 16 and 20 yard line
ü3 – for the Handicap (20- 27 yard line)
Sporting Clays - typically a ü1/ü2 or ü2/ü2 combo
ü0/ü1 – for close targets inside 35 yds.
ü1/ü2 – for “normal courses” out to 40 yds.
ü2/ü2 – for “challenging courses” out to 45 yds.
ü2/ü3 – for “difficult courses” out to 65 yds.
ü3/ü4 for “Pro courses” past 60 yds.
3 Gun: Specifically for 3 Gun Competitions
Made of steel so they have no restriction on shot size or material- can be used with slugs.
Hoser- Inside 25 yards, similar to our U0 (Cylinder/Skeet)
Far- for precision targets, has far and tight pattern, similar to our U3 (Modified)
Hunting:
Decoy – inside 35 yds (good for hunting over a dog)
.007
U1/U2
Passing –35-50 yds
.025
U3
UFO - beyond 60 yards
.040
Turkey - tight pattern (same as UFO)
Can be used for turkey hunting
Also for card shoots and turkey shoots (where the tightest pattern at a close distance is needed)
Ammo/Other Info
In regards to Feet Per Second: 1300 FPS or less for the best pattern, 1400 FPS starts to change pattern, 1600 FPS will blow pattern
The roundest, most consistent ammos out there are as follows: B&P, Gamebore, and Remington.
For hunting:
Federal, Fiocchi Golden Pheasant
For hunting over a dog, use our Decoy choke
Jim prefers shot size #6
Back Boring: When a gunsmith or machinist bores or hones out the barrel I.D. (inside diameter) to make it larger in size. This causes a major choke tube issue! You can no longer shoot a “standard choke” that is made for that model shotgun. It now would require custom chokes forever. (Jim does not recommend)
We do not make chokes for any aftermarket back bored barrels
Cleaning:
Use Qmaxx Black Diamond or Rem oil as a cleaner or lubricator
If you are one who leaves your chokes in the barrel for extended periods of time he recommends good old bearing grease.
Bore snakes are O.K. to use
Do NOT use Anti-Seize or Simple Green
**Our warranty is voided if anything other than recommended products
Lapping Compound: Just apply a small amount to the thread area and using the wrench, spin choke in and out until it fits all the way in perfectly. Then oil choke and wipe off lapping compound.
Use if your choke seems tight going into your barrel
Loosening chokes
Use our choke wrench
Put grease on the threads
