Last week, I took the opportunity here to tell you about our Wristly Usage Research project experiment, and as a result many of you signed up to participate. A huge thank you and in turn as I promised we are now starting to share back the findings we collected and analyzed.
A word on methodology. For this report, we polled 62 of you over the May 17th to May 20th timeframe. The next survey which we issued earlier today will reach over 100 Apple Watch users. If you have the watch and also want to be part of our Inner Circle, we welcome you here - it really only takes 30 seconds of your day once a week to participate and in turn it contributes to shaping the view of this amazing new device. Without further due, here is the first summary report. For Apple Watch observers and users it’s full of great information and should contain some surprises for most of you!
Key Takeaways:
- More than half our panel is using “Hey Siri “ multiple times per day e supports our insight that Siri usage will explode.
- More than half our panel has never played a game or used Apple Pay. These important and strategic features for Apple are lagging in adoption.
- The watch is being used to control and play externally stored music more frequently than to store and play music locally – or users don’t feel free to use the watch without their iPhone nearby?
The behavior/fear around water is fascinating.
- 12% have worn the watch in the shower, despite reviews showing that the watch is much more water-resistant than advertised (no one has yet swam with it).
- 26% of our panel have taken the opposite view, stating they "never let a drop of water touch their watch”.
Finally in terms of watch faces, Utility and Modular win the top prizes hands-down! Utility does the best job of visually displaying the time and providing the most complications and Modular has the most complications period.
