"The Prodigal Son or Entitled Brother -Part 2"

-Our Appetites Drag Us Away-

The term prodigal is characterized by an acting out through addiction, rebellion, recklessness, promiscuity, or any other destructive behavior that pulls us away. Another way to explain this is the appetites that we keep.

So often what most of don't realize or want to admit that we have within us an appetite we know that is not healthy for us. Even though we know that we love ice cream, and pound cake we just can't indulge in it because of the consequences of how much weight we will put on. We are striving to stay fit, trim, and healthy. They're worldly things that pull us away as well that we must flee in order to stay healthy spiritually.

2 Timothy 2:22 NIV

Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Some of those appetites we are able to hide once we indulge in better than others. Some of us judge, and point fingers to keep the focus off our own inadequacies. No one is exempt from temptations. Temptations are created by the desires that reside with us. The prodigal son was just on front street, because he squandered his inheritance while the other brother stay home and thought he deserved everything because he was the good one. One makes the other brother so dangerous is that he thought he had it all together. He was so self righteous that he couldn't have any compassion for his brother who had went through hell and high water.

What about us?

Are we judgemental of others for the purpose of looking good ourselves. Are we holy than thou, but have skeletons in our own closet. What makes me better than the next man? The truth is that we are all saved by grace not our self righteousness.

Today let examine our own appetites and ask God to assist us in having a healthy diet.
