Our Academic Institutions Are Detached From Reality

I'm disgusted to see what's going on at the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem this week where they reinstated an Israeli-Palestinian professor who made anti-Israel comments.

Professor who made anti-Israel comments can teach again, Hebrew U says >> Jerusalem Post

This is the university I studied at in the 80's, alongside Arabs and people from other countries. There were even Arabs living in the dormitory, and people from abroad could barely tell them apart from Israelis. My Mother rented me an apartment in Maale Adumim, so I even had to drive through a checkpoint to get back and forth. Forgot that it's referred to as a "settlement" in the West Bank.

From this case of the reinstated anti-Israel professor at one of our main academic institutions, we can see how what's going on at our universities is a perfect reflection of the entire Arab-Israeli affair.

The fact that our academic institutions don't know how to deal with this matter properly - for instance, the students were not even sure what kind of punishment they wanted - demonstrates how disconnected our academic institutions are from reality.

Our current general state shows us how disconnected we all are from reality, and how we don't know how to deal with any of it properly.

This whole awakening of the Arabs. It didn't happen overnight. It's been building for decades, while we were all focused on becoming more like Western countries.

This is why we don't know how to handle it or approach this issue.

We have a very charged situation throughout Israel at the moment between Arabs and Israel. That appears to be a result of the war - but it runs much deeper than that.

The main reason is that we don't know who we are dealing with.

And when all is said and done - we will not blame the Arabs.

We can only blame the poor relationships between us.

Even after 75 years.

We still haven't found the reason for the establishment of the state.

We still don't understand the point of all this.

We have no national identity.

So we shouldn't be surprised that people in positions like this will use their "freedom of speech" rights at every opportunity to walk all over us.

It's happening everywhere now and we should be worried.

Hate Spreading To America

The situation in on US campuses is much worse.

We're seeing the peak of human hatred.

And regardless of what's currently happening with the Jews, it's generally a hostile atmosphere.

How does an academic institution pull off encouraging so much aggressions?

Doesn't this indicate that something might be wrong?

I wouldn't send my child to study in these places because their soul would be infused with all this poison just from being in that environment.

You may have wanted your kid to be a doctor with an ivy league certificate but these are young and impressionable people we're talking about.

Being in this toxic environment is so bad for them!

By the way today's post was inspired by an email I received from the Maccabee Task Force - here's an excerpt below. Now decide if this is what we pay tens of thousands of dollars for our law abiding kids to learn at university - how to "fight back". These kids are civilians not soldiers, with parents who are tax payers. There is no reason for them to need to fight anyone.

Dear Josia -

We’re fighting back. Things seem dire on the college campus. Jewish students are faced with acute hostility simply for being Jewish and for supporting Israel, and they receive little protection from their university administrations as they are accosted and assailed by those who hate them.

However, the inhospitable, and in certain cases outright antisemitic environment the American university currently presents Jewish students, has reawakened their Zionist fervor. I see it happening every day. Something is changing.

At Rutgers, Maccabee Fellow Kelly Shapiro helped lead a march on campus to protest the anti-Israel student coalition’s efforts to pass a referendum calling for the school to boycott Israel.

At USC, Maccabee Fellows Aidan Bloomstine and Logan Barth organized and led a march across campus calling for Hamas to release the hostages the terrorist group continues to hold and torture in Gaza.?

Our students nationwide only wanted to go about their academic careers in peace. They wanted to have the classic college experience, immersed in learning, networking, and fraternity, but the hatred of others has made it so they cannot live as normal college students.

We need them to fight, and they are answering that call. Their voice is rising, their will is hardening, and they are ever game to the task. Now they march.

Hopefully in the coming weeks and months there will be pro-Israel marches on every campus across the country. Those who hate us, will hear us. We will not be weak; we will not hide.

We need your support to make this happen though. Every bit of support you give to the Maccabee Task Force, goes directly towards this fight. We use every dollar to change the hearts and minds of important campus communities, to develop allies for Jewish students they never had before, allies who bolster their numbers and march side-by-side with them in support of the Jewish people and Israel.

I give you my pledge, we will not rest until we end the madness taking place on campus. A movement has begun. The Zionist student of today, is not the Zionist student of yesterday. Now they march.
