To our 26s, Before our 30s, For our 40s.

To our 26s, Before our 30s, For our 40s.

It took me a long while to reconcile, everything that I have experienced in the past 9 months and more. I began my journey for 2 failed startups in Southeast Asia since 2013, scored the lowest mark in my class in The University of Hong Kong, and came along with full body of scars, mistrust, ego and lack of love.

It's not any chick-soup at all. I am just putting it up here as it may mark something else in life before my 30s. I am now again raising fund for my latest company, preparing to Singapore and a little bit looking back and connecting the dots.

I was almost sued by the end of my 2nd startup with my investor, and decided to wind up everything. I hide myself at home for 2 months, slept everyday in room of my mother's. I couldn't figure out, how a boy from grass-root family, with a barber shop father and white collar low paid mother can thrive. My parents bear debts further thanks to my "vision". Also I failed my love life. Everything was just against me. Something was wrong.

That was 2 years back, 24 years old, and everyday you read about startups scoring new funds as "unicorns". Your "story" is simply not sexy until you scored in the new funding round. Spotlight goes back to you.

There is no magic spell to make dream true.

"It's either I live with such dull life, or I give it a final shot. It has been such far anyway. "

Since then, I focused on pooling every piece back into 1. I chose to start from a summit, a movie universe like summit journey. Meet up in every annual of summit simply brings back the active ones, the rapidly growing ones, like Marvel's Avengers.

I believe this is larger than building a startup. More this is like plotting a universe of stories in such a cinematic sense of humankind. Leader-type will meet at a "point" and great things happen. I am so dedicated to design and plan how that "point" can be planted.

Life is also larger than many things, but I always milestone my life by 30s, where I hope there is an "endgame", where a life-turning point comes. If simply joining a corporate workforce cannot get my family(and myself) out of poverty and achieve life mission, I hope my startup will.

Future City Summit, Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy

"I have no idea getting into government workforce at all, but I believe the next generation of leadership to be nurtured shall be government leadership with entrepreneurial spirit." I stated this to Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy, when they offered me a chance of scholarship.

The whole idea of founding "Future City Summit" is absolutely more than just building a brand of conference. It's a larger version of the way our generation thinks and believes in. Great ideas and entrepreneurship happen at a "point" where emotion of assembly and greater mind of future aggregate.

And this is not just about startups or technologies...arts, cultures, history and policy shall greatly join in and hence their reflected personalities of leaders in all these domains. All these ideas and modelings of "impact investing", "Emerging Future Cities Networks", "Tourism Lab" and partnership are formats. What matters most is fundamental intrinsic experience that impacts their mindsets and belief in future, consequentially such leadership behavioral change and hence their attitudes towards visions and all subject matters.

Lee Kwan Yew wouldn't really wake up from his grave or sickbed with a sharp hatchet, but every era of times need a generation of greater figures like Lee, José Rizal, Deng Xiaoping and all.

Blockchain, Digital Asset and Crypto, The Times of Economic Transformation

I so happened to apprentice with a company group chairman 9 months ago, through personal referral by the Chairman of Cyberport. It wasn't an easy role to understand and assist a corporate magnate who brought DuPont and Huntsman Corporation to Hong Kong and Asia.

Thanks to a simple wish made, I said to get into the financial industry and I believe this is where public policy, national development and good technology startup should end up with in the cross-road.

There are just so many blockchain and related projects that come to my desk. The past 9 months in such active asset management and capital group highly exposed me to companies from traditional finance to digital ones. From scams to consistently growing companies, the financial world runs faster than you see. Success overnight comes shorter as market changes.

Entering this domain basically drives you to a journey with HKSI(Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute) examinations and CFA(Chartered Financial Analyst). You either stay in agents or drill deep into the world of money games. Simply you are highly exposed to smart people. The ones who don't speak much are usually worth your time more to learn from. People observe, analyse and think.

"Consistency", "Focus", "Always Learning", "Network" and all are matters I have absorbed further, as always, but this time in such a traditional licensed corporate world. You see the power of relationship that is built over decades, influence of seniority, point of becoming professional with sharp experience. At the end of the day, we skill to tell stories, either yours or others'. Substance like "knowledge", "experience", "trans-formative thinking" keep one young and triumph.

Never Made A Wish Where You Had No Idea Where You End Up In

No, this is not true. The charm of life is that you never know where you end up in.

It always comes to my mentality that there shall be something happening before 30s, that shall determine your 40s, or at least largely influence. In my 20s, it's a decision to strive to Southeast Asia without any network, but just a small wallet and ugly bank account.

It's a half past 20s and definitely it gets me more thinking about future.

The world is absolutely getting smaller but vision and all life are getting larger than we can imagine. Life is such a one-way train, and we shall just do what our guts tell to do. At my 26s, I keep this gut-feeling stronger for 30s and hopefully 40s too.

For those who would like to see more what's more next in coming 3 months, no matter about my upcoming life in LKYSPP or fund-raising journey in Future City Summit, or even just a cup of coffee, I can be reached at [email protected].

Awesome Andre. During my hall days, I liked to call myself a student of failure rather than a trumpeter of success. It went against the grain of the convention there. Learning to fall safely is pretty critical for anything high-risk (startups, bungee, surfing?). Fanfare of success is based on tradition; that has its merits and limitations.?
