Our 2021 Hire Heroes USA Impact

Our 2021 Hire Heroes USA Impact

Wow!

Trying to summarize the accomplishments of our team at Hire Heroes USA for last year is no easy task! Despite the continuation of COVID-19, a fluctuating market, new administration, and challenges across the board, our team still set a new bar for excellence, with a new single year record for veteran and military spouse hires.?

12,594

That number alone is quite meaningful when you think about the families, communities, and organizations that benefit from these talented and capable leaders gaining meaningful employment. It's also a significant testament to the efficiency and impact of our team. With 130 employees and around $11 million in expenses, Hire Heroes USA represents about 0.00005% of the U.S. GDP, but produced 0.19% of the total new hires for 2021.

Let me put that another way - our team produced an impact 2,000 times larger than our size in the market last year. Not only did Hire Heroes USA lead the way in total volume of veteran and military spouse hires, but we also did so with an unmatched efficiency in the non-profit sector.

But what's the story behind those hires? Each veteran or military spouse transition to civilian employment has their own unique path, but there are a few key impact areas I want to highlight where our work made a difference to some of those facing particularly difficult challenges.

1,230 Military Spouses started meaningful new jobs thanks to our team's hard work last year -9.7% of our total impact. With Military Spouse unemployment staggeringly high over the last 18 months, we are especially proud of our impact with this community.

The 2,646 Junior Enlisted veterans that were hired make up 21% of our impact this year. Junior Enlisted veterans have unique challenges with their transition to civilian employment, and this is a monumental impact for this at-need group.

Over 30% of our hires from 2021 did not have a Bachelor's degree. This is an unmatched impact, ensuring economic opportunity for all veterans and spouses regardless of education, and empowering these leaders to obtain full-time employment.

This kind of impact only comes through a tremendous team effort and phenomenal consistency and quality - some of the output that was necessary to make such an impact:

  • Our staff conducted over 200,800 phone calls to coach, support, educate, and empower our veteran and military spouse clients.
  • We produced over 16,500 high-quality resumes to support our clients in their job search.
  • We have 1,300 dedicated and professional volunteers who conducted over 7,400 hours of mentoring, career counseling, and mock interviews.
  • We had over 10,700 attendees at our live virtual events, and over 1,800 clients use our library of video education and training tools.

With our confirmed hires this year, it brings our lifetime total impact to 64,962 veterans and military spouse lives changed!

This will be the first in what I hope will be a series of posts on our services, how veterans can engage in the labor market, and my thoughts on the unique industry that is non-profit. Thanks for reading, and your support of the #veteran and #militaryspouse communities!
