Brain rot named the Oxford Word of the Year 2024?
Following a public vote and expert analysis of our language data, we named ‘brain rot’ as 2024’s Oxford Word of the Year. The word gained new prominence this year with growing concerns about the impact of consuming excessive amounts of low-quality online content.?

New Zealand schoolchildren submit their word creations to the OED
The Oxford English Dictionary team recently received some submissions from a group of schoolchildren in New Zealand! Their newly invented words were sent in on paper slips, a throwback to the historical process for submitting new words into the dictionary.?
