Other Worlds: A Child's Odyssey
Nature has always been my muse. I remember collecting rocks, catching frogs and toads and getting lost for hours at a local pond. I think this is how I became an artist with a focus on water.
Yesterday I was walking the dog and stopped by a stream where a leopard frog shot out into depths of the sticks and old Lilly pads. Small fish darted in and out of the shadows as larger fish chased them into the shallows and dragonflies dance on autumn breezes.
It brought me back to walking through Roosevelt Park in Edison, New Jersey. We were always exploring, looking for frogs and any other wildlife we could find. It was a magical time and how I grew up with nature as my muse.
Fishing, hiking, scuba diving, birdwatching and snorkeling; all of my passions stem from a child's walk in knee-deep water.
My first children's book that I have illustrated, in the works, and written is in process. It describes a child's view of the backyard after missing a camping trip.
These images of aquatic leaves turning colors resting on the edge of multiple worlds beneath them, it reminded me of Monet's Water Lillies.
I am forever enthralled with the many levels and hidden places that lie beneath the still pool or beneath the ocean wave. It is what I try to capture through my illustrations of water.
All of these paintings/pastel are from several years ago. I will be debuting a whole collection of pastels in the next few weeks. What inspires you to paint or photograph?-What is your inspiration?
