July seems like a long time ago.
It was then, that I wrote about the importance of leaders sharing information with employees on a regular basis.
And recently, I’ve talked with a number of business leaders who are staring down losses.
Big losses that employees aren’t aware of.
And when they find out, it is a big surprise.
Surprises erode trust and confidence.
When people are surprised, they wonder what else is being hidden from them.
Or they wonder if the leaders are competent.
Or maybe just lying.
They get concerned about being asked to do more with less.
They wonder if the business will be there long term.
Who stays and who goes.
Because someone will lose their job.
The thing about transparency is, it builds trust and confidence.
People know what to expect.
The other side of transparency is a tough place to be.
