The OT Practice service update

The OT Practice service update

Over the past few weeks occupational therapy delivered in the community has had to evolve quickly. We have been faced with the challenge of ensuring both children and adults in the community continue to benefit from therapeutic support during this period of social distancing. At The OT Practice our primary concern is to ensure we establish the right balance between the risk of infection and contributing to the spread, weighed against the needs of vulnerable clients who are likely to add to the burden on our healthcare services if not assessed and treated.

With our NHS and social care services so focused on delivering frontline care to those effected by the coronavirus, in addition to the effects of isolation on the vulnerable taking hold, there will inevitably be a longer term impact on social care in the community. I therefore think, as a community based practice, it is essential we not only look at what we can do now to support our frontline healthcare colleagues, but also look ahead to help mitigate the longer term effects of this crisis.

We have examined how we can continue to deliver services in a responsible way that enables us to support our commissioners and clients as effectively as possible. On our website we provide clear guidance on how we continue to deliver care in the community, whether using innovative remote methods or making an assessment of risks/benefit for a visit.
