OT Cybersecurity: The Standards Conundrum

Muhammad Mubarik Mustafa, Senior OT/ICS Cybersecurity Consultant from ACET Solutions is one of the Speakers today 24-Apr-24 for the Automation and Digital Transformation Conference (ADTC 2024) which is organized by the International Society of Automation, Saudi Arabia, and sponsored by Saudi aramco. An insightful and detailed discussion around how and why the attention towards OT Cybersecurity has skyrocketed in the past few years, yet this being still an evolving domain. Mitigation of all risks associated, the industry is scrambling to develop the requirements for security controls to be implemented to protect the critical industrial assets. @ISA has been at the forefront of this effort with its ISA/IEC-62443 series of OT Cybersecurity standards. Then there are numerous other industry specific standards like NERC-CIP, API 1164, etc. Then there are national standards like NCA-OTCC (KSA). Some organizations have their own standards and requirements for OT/ICS Cybersecurity, like the Saudi Aramco SAEP-99. The presentation aimed at answering the questions like which standards to adopt and to what extent and most importantly will adoption from any of available standards ensure a zero risk to critical assets and the specific industry.

He holds multiple professional certifications including GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Fundamentals Specialist, ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP), and PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He is actively involved in ISA Global Cybersecurity Alliance (ISA-GCA) in promoting the adoption of ISA/IEC 62443 standards. Prior to ACET Solutions, he worked with several Fortune 500 companies including Chevron, KBR, Inc., and Sadara Chemical Company (a Saudi-aramco and Dow Chemicals JV).
