Don’t just accept that joint pain’s a natural part of growing older – it doesn’t have to be!

A patient recently came to see me, complaining about dragging her left foot after falling and landing on her knees. Ouch.

She’s 76. I could have made the appropriate noises, and given her some painkillers.

But that’s not the way I roll, as you know.

My patient has cerebral palsy, which affects her left side anyway. This was compounding the issue and really causing her problems.

I put my thinking cap on. (It’s not a deerstalker, it’s a trilby. Much more dapper and on point for 2022.)

The leg-dragging thing started about 15 months ago. She’d been to the doctor, and been referred to orthopaedics, who’d recommended she use a calliper. ?

But that calliper was a heavy old blighter. Really cumbersome. It did NOT improve things – arguably, it made life more difficult.

When I examined her, I found that her sacroiliac joint was restricted on her left side. Shock waves from her accident, no doubt, causing trauma in her body all these months later.

Readers, I did my thing.

3 treatments on, my lovely patient is walking without those heavy old callipers and can enjoy life again, as she should be doing.

I love my job.
