One of my favourite patients in my practice in London was Mr. McCarthy, a retired school caretaker. He came in a few times a year to address what he called “40 years of overuse and abuse.” In his lovely southwest Irish accent, this phrase had a rather charming ring to it.

What he was really saying, though, was that he’d done a very manual job for very little pay—and now, he was feeling the effects of it.

He would often say in autumn, “The weather’s going to turn—I can feel it in my right knee before a cold snap,” or “My neck hates this damp weather.”

Now, whether you think it’s an old wives’ tale that Mr. McCarthy’s knee was an accurate barometer for predicting cold fronts sweeping in from the Atlantic ??, chances are your patients report similar experiences or ask you, “Is it true you can feel changes in the weather if you’ve got arthritis?”

A fundamental principle of marketing is: “Enter the conversation already happening in your prospect’s mind.”

In other words, this could be an ideal time for a winter warmer offer ??. You can talk about why people might notice more aches and pains at this time of year and, of course, how you and your services can help. This message could be delivered via email, text, or social media.
