I am very proud to be one of the only Brazilians with 08 films at the Oscars Academy Of Motion Of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences in Hollywood, the American Film Institute, UCLA and the Sundance Institute Film Archives.

It all started in the year of 1983,here in Brazil, when I shot a Short Film in 35MM (At that time this gauge was the biggest reference for World Cinema – Today we are all seen through computers and great definitions at Digital Images Era,

Well – the film in question is JO?O DA MATA UM DOCUMENTO , Co-produced by the Producer of Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands. Menino do Rio, and many others, Luiz Carlos Barreto, father of Bruno Barreto. The film was very successful and was shown at the time as a short film before films such as ET O EXTRATERRESTRE and FLASHDANCE, in the cinemas of the Havaii Cinemas Network, which were in the Center of Campinas and Center of S?o Paulo, capital and soon went to the malls .- Birth of Multiplexes.

As soon as I have finished production, I have sent it to Los Angeles, through the diplomatic exchange of the American Consulate in S?o Paulo, the copy was heavy and huge with the 35 MM roll and its 10 minutes duration with subtitles in English. The documentary film is the story of the first feature film produced and filmed in Brazil and Campinas(my homeland) in 1923 Jo?o da Mata by Amilar Alves and had interviews recorded with sound OFF (Afterwards the image captions in a audio recording studio) because we didn't have a camera with direct sound, with the main actor of the film, who was Jo?o da Mata himself, Angelo Fortes and the cinematographer, director of photography and laboratory Tomáz de Tulio.

I have sent the film at the invitation of Film Director and Hollywood Producer, Mr. Robert Wise(The Sound of Music, Star Trek The Motion Picture, West Side Story an dmny others who at the time saw a copy in 16MM, there in Hollywood at Sunset Gower Studios and invited me to send it to the OSCAR of 1984, and it was among finalists in the short list of the year among the 10 shot documentaries.

But even though it didn't win the Oscars in the 56th edition in 1984, the board invited my film to do something unpublished in the Oscars Film Archive, to invite a short film, without even being awarded with an Oscars statuette. And there was my Jo?o da Mata Um Documento, the first of a series that until today I am always invited to send to my Marcos Augusto Craveiro collection at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences and to the AFI, UCLA Film collections, as a LifeTime Donator.

This special and the most recent short doc I have sent tom the Academy Archives is about Tampa Theatre – Tampa Theater as Time Goes On (2019), with Soundtrack and editing by Oscar Winner in 2019, John Ottman , by Bohemian Rhapsody.
