Orthodontic Care: Improving workflow efficiency and patient care with innovative remote monitoring at mydentist
mydentist (UK)
The UK’s largest Dental care provider home to over 3,000 talented Clinicians and over 530 dental practices.
Dr Sally Alwan, Orthodontic Clinical Development Advisor at mydentist, is at the core of a cutting-edge trial of remote monitoring at Beverley Orthodontic Centre, which started in July 2023.
What is DentalMonitoring and is this the future of Orthodontic patient care?
Sally explained: “DentalMonitoring is used by dentists and orthodontists to monitor and track the progress of teeth straightening treatments, as well as to identify any potential issues so we can appropriately support the patient’s treatment journey. Using a small scan box and an app on their mobile device, the patient takes scans of their teeth in the comfort of their own home, which are then reviewed by their treatment team.”
“Remote monitoring has the potential to be transformative in helping mydentist Orthodontic Care practices across the UK to increase their patient flow and provide their pre-existing patients with elevated levels of care.”
“The trial has been launched as part of mydentist’s ongoing commitment to enhancing accessibility and elevating patient care within Orthodontics, pioneering the trial of remote monitoring to see if this can support our practice teams and clinicians further whilst they are working hard to treat their patients.”
Streamlining our processes
Sally continues: "In our practice in Beverley, we have found that oral hygiene was perhaps an issue at the beginning of our patients’ journeys, but when they then went on to DentalMonitoring, we were able to annotate images and we can create bespoke videos for patients - the response to that was amazing. Oral hygiene has dramatically improved among our patients, and we have now got a very high percentage of patients who are particularly happy and have excellent oral hygiene because of it."
Sally added: “Overall, there is an immense amount of benefit that NHS patients can gain from DentalMonitoring, particularly those who are in deprived areas. If we're able to streamline the process for our NHS patients, that means we're able to hopefully see a larger volume of patients, we're able to refine our treatment processes, and we’re able to remotely prescribe to the orthodontic therapists so that they can do a lot of the work which frees up our clinical time to see some of the more complex cases.”
Looking forward to the future of DentalMonitoring, Sally concluded: “I look forward to seeing how DentalMonitoring could continue to streamline our processes and hope that it can help us to improve our workflow in the future.”
