We were called to this location on the near south side of Chicago to address several concerns. One of the primary concerns of management centered around an exposed open vestibule on the side of the building.
Because of the obscured layout and building design, illicit activities were taking place there on a regular basis. It was a dark inset area, off the beaten path of the sidewalk and thus not easily seen from afar.
Our solution is shown in the image above. Below and to the left you can see the before picture.
Our proposed solution, simple yet effective, was to install two sections of tall decorative ornamental metal fencing. Since the building’s doors were used exclusively as emergency building exits, we included a pedestrian gate near the middle to complete the exit path.
The gate was equipped with the necessary panic hardware required for exiting only. The expanded metal design, on both the fencing and the gate, prevents anyone reaching through and opening the gate from the outside.
Although more expensive, it looks better than basic chain link fencing. Plus, the City of Chicago now requires all new fence work along the public right of way be ornamental.
