Orlando Continues To Be Top US Tourist Destination.
The AP (5/2, Schneider) reports “tourism officials announced Monday that the number of visitors coming to Orlando last year jumped 5.5 percent to more than 66 million visitors,” 5.5 million from abroad and 60.5 million domestic, setting a record for the number of tourists visiting Orlando. According to the head of Orlando’s tourist marketing bureau, several factors accounted for the increase, “including momentum from new theme park rides that had opened the previous year.” Visit Orlando CEO George Aguel said the new marketing campaign featuring the “Neverending Story” also contributed to the rise. Orlando reportedly collected $230 million in taxes from hotels and motels in 2015.
