The term "Survival of the fittest" was coined by Herbert Spencer after reading Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species. “Survival of the fittest” is often incorrectly translated as the law of the fittest and it is often thought that this statement comes from Darwin, which is not the case.
Darwin's On the Origin of Species indicates that it is about adaptability to change. Survival catastrophic happenings is not about being strong or fit or even be in many numbers.
If we look at which species survive drastic changes then we see those who are able to adapt will survive. That can be adapting in a different kinds of food, another habitat, physical changes. Those who don't change will mostly vanish. This goes for all species on Earth. And if this is what happens on Earth than it can/will happen on other habitable planets and moons.?
