Imagine a hot summer day, a chilled bottle glistening with moisture, and that satisfying fizz when you pop open a can. As you take that first sip, you are hit with a burst of flavour - a perfect mix of sweetness and a touch of tang that wakes up your taste buds. This is Coca-Cola, a sip that can transport you to a world of refreshment in an instant.
But did you know that Coca-Cola was actually discovered by mistake and that too by a pharmacist!!
Invention
The story of Coca-Cola begins with John Stith Pemberton, a pharmacist and chemist in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In 1886, Pemberton created a syrup in his laboratory that he initially intended as a patent medicine. The syrup contained a combination of coca leaf extract and kola nut extract, along with some other ingredients like sugar and water.
One day, while working on his concoction, Dr. Pemberton's assistant accidentally added carbonated water (soda water) to the syrup instead of regular water. This accidental mistake resulted in the creation of a fizzy and effervescent beverage, transforming the medicinal tonic into a refreshing soda.
First Sale
On May 8, 1886, Coca-Cola was introduced to the public at Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta. It was initially marketed as a "brain tonic" and "nerve stimulant" that could provide relief from exhaustion. A single glass was sold for five cents, and it was an immediate hit.
Naming
The name "Coca-Cola" was coined by Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank M. Robinson. He also designed the iconic script logo that is still used today. The name was chosen to reflect the two key ingredients: coca leaf and kola nut, and "cola" referred to the flavour.

Lesson
Coca-Cola has become more than just a beverage; it's a shared experience that brings people together.?
This accidental discovery highlights that innovation can emerge from unexpected places, even from attempts to create medicines. Being open to new ideas and approaches can lead to groundbreaking discoveries.
